Ingredients

Apples (diced)

All-purpose flour

Sugar

Baking powder

Baking soda

Ground cinnamon

Nutmeg

Butter (cold, cubed)

Eggs

Milk or buttermilk

Raisins

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  • Cut cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and milk (or buttermilk).

  • Gently combine the wet and dry ingredients, being careful not to overmix.

  • Fold in diced apples and raisins.

  • Shape dough into a 1-inch thick disk on a floured surface and cut into wedges or rounds.

  • Place on the baking sheet and bake for 18–22 minutes until golden brown.

  • Cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Swap raisins for cranberries, dates, or chocolate chips for a twist.

Add chopped nuts for extra crunch.

For dairy-free, use plant-based milk and vegan butter.

Freeze baked scones individually for easy reheating.
