Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 (15 oz) cans vegetarian baked beans (or regular baked beans without meat)
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
2. Cook the Ground Beef
- In a deep skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink.
- Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened. Drain any excess grease.
- Tip: Substitute half of the bell pepper with jalapeño or poblano for extra heat.
3. Add the Seasonings
- Stir in the ketchup and mix to combine.
- Add mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar, stirring again.
- Taste for seasoning and add salt and black pepper as needed.
4. Add the Beans
- Stir in the baked beans (with their juice) until everything is well combined.
5. Assemble & Bake
- Pour the beef and baked bean mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread evenly.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
