Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (or sweet rice wine)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 pear (Asian pear preferred), grated
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  • Mix Soy Sauce & Sugars: Combine soy sauce, white sugar, and brown sugar in a bowl. Stir until the sugars dissolve completely.
  • Add Aromatics: Mix in minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Stir to combine.
  • Incorporate Liquids: Add mirin and rice vinegar, ensuring the mixture is well blended.
  • Add Pear: Stir in grated pear for natural sweetness and tenderizing properties.
  • Season: Add ground black pepper, chopped green onions, and sesame seeds (if using). Mix thoroughly.
  • Marinate & Cook: Use the sauce to marinate thinly sliced beef for at least 30 minutes before grilling or frying for best results.

Notes

  • Substitute Asian pear with apple or kiwi if unavailable.
  • Sauce can also be used as a stir-fry sauce or dipping sauce for other proteins like chicken.
