Description

A sweet and creamy Caramel Macchiato made with vanilla syrup, frothed milk, espresso, and topped with caramel sauce, replicating your favorite coffee shop drink.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon vanilla syrup (store-bought or homemade)

¾ cup whole milk (or milk of choice)

2 ounces espresso (or strong brewed coffee)

For the Vanilla Syrup: ½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup water

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

For the Caramel Sauce: ½ cup brown sugar

¼ cup whipping cream

2 tablespoons salted butter

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. To make the vanilla syrup: In a small pot, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, then continue boiling for 8-10 minutes until the syrup slightly thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let it cool and store leftovers in a jar in the fridge for up to a month.
  2. To make the caramel sauce: In a small pot over medium-high heat, combine brown sugar, whipping cream, butter, salt, and vanilla. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it boil for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let it cool. Store it in a squeeze bottle or an airtight container for easy drizzling.
  3. To prepare the Caramel Macchiato: Pour 1 tablespoon of vanilla syrup into your mug. Froth the milk using a frother, steam wand, or whisk. Pour the frothed milk into the mug over the vanilla syrup. Brew 2 ounces of espresso (or 4 ounces of strong coffee) and pour it gently into the milk. The espresso will create a ‘mark’ in the milk. Drizzle caramel sauce over the top, making two circles around the edge of the mug, then create a crosshatch pattern on top.

Notes

Store homemade vanilla syrup in a jar in the fridge for up to a month.

Caramel sauce can be stored at room temperature for a few days or refrigerated for longer storage. Reheat in hot water if it thickens too much.

For a dairy-free version, use oat milk, almond milk, or soy milk.

Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less vanilla syrup and caramel sauce.

For iced Caramel Macchiato, pour milk and espresso over ice and drizzle caramel sauce on top.
