Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- ¾ teaspoon kosher salt, divided
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (1½ sticks), divided
- 1 cup whole milk
- 8 ounces shredded mild cheddar cheese
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Melt ½ cup (1 stick) butter in microwave for 30 seconds; set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon salt.
- Add melted butter and milk; whisk just until flour is moistened—do not overmix.
- Fold in shredded cheddar cheese with a spoon.
- Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, melt remaining ¼ cup (½ stick) butter in a small bowl. Stir in ¼ teaspoon salt and dried parsley.
- Remove biscuits from oven and brush generously with the melted butter mixture. Serve warm.
Notes
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika for a spicy kick.
- Use sharp cheddar for more intense cheese flavor.
- Substitute fresh minced garlic for garlic powder for fresher taste.
- Top with freshly chopped parsley instead of dried for brighter color and flavor.
- Mix in chopped chives for extra herbaceous notes.
