1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Ice-cold water (as needed)
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine grated cheddar cheese, flour, baking powder, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).
-
Cut in the Butter: Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the cold butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Add Water: Add ice-cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together.
-
Roll and Cut: Roll the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness and cut into strips about 1/2 inch wide and 4–5 inches long.
-
Shape and Bake: Twist the strips into spirals and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden and crispy.
-
Cool: Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Spice It Up: Add extra cayenne or chili powder for a spicier version.
Cheese Variations: Try Monterey Jack, Parmesan, Gruyère, or Gouda for different flavors.
