Description

Cinnamon Oatmeal Stuffed Apples with Vanilla Custard Sauce is a warm, comforting dessert featuring baked apples filled with cinnamon-spiced oatmeal and topped with a silky vanilla custard. Perfect for cozy fall evenings or wholesome sweet indulgence.

Ingredients

  • Large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • Rolled oats
  • Brown sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Butter, melted
  • Chopped nuts (optional)
  • Raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
  • Water (for baking)
  • For the vanilla custard sauce:
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • Salt
  • Egg yolks
  • Vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Wash and core the apples, leaving the base intact to hold filling.
  3. Mix rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and melted butter in a bowl. Stir in nuts and dried fruit if using.
  4. Fill each apple generously with oatmeal mixture, pressing lightly. Arrange upright in baking dish.
  5. Pour 1 cup water into the bottom of the baking dish.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes until apples are tender.
  7. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Heat over medium, whisking until simmering.
  8. Whisk egg yolks and vanilla in a bowl. Gradually add warm milk mixture while whisking. Return to pan and cook until thickened, stirring continuously.
  9. Remove from heat and let custard cool slightly.
  10. Serve baked apples drizzled with warm vanilla custard sauce.

Notes

  • Substitute oats with quinoa flakes or crushed granola for texture variation.
  • Use maple syrup or honey instead of brown sugar for different sweetness.
  • Add nutmeg or ginger to the filling for extra spice.
  • For dairy-free custard, use coconut milk and cornstarch, omit egg yolks.
