Description

Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs are tender, juicy meatballs simmered to perfection in a rich and savory French onion soup sauce. Topped with optional Swiss cheese for a cheesy twist, this comforting slow-cooker recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or as a satisfying meal over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups French onion soup (canned or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs:
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Shape the mixture into 20-24 meatballs.
  2. Brown the Meatballs (Optional):
For added flavor, brown the meatballs in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  3. Add to Crock Pot:
Place the meatballs in the bottom of the Crock Pot.
  4. Prepare the Sauce:
In a bowl, mix the French onion soup, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Pour the mixture over the meatballs in the Crock Pot.
  5. Cook:
Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
  6. Serve:
If desired, sprinkle shredded Swiss cheese over the meatballs during the last 10 minutes of cooking. Serve the meatballs with sauce over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta for a comforting meal.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add caramelized onions for extra richness.
  • For a thicker sauce, remove the lid in the last 30 minutes to reduce the liquid.
