Dad’s Day Strata is a hearty and delicious casserole combining broccoli, savory protein, bread, and melty cheese baked into a custardy, satisfying dish perfect for brunch or light dinner.
Ingredients
½ cup broccoli florets
3 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes with basil, garlic, and oregano, drained
8 slices deli-style protein, shredded
¼ cup shredded pepper jack cheese
4 eggs
¼ cup heavy whipping cream
1½ teaspoons garlic powder
Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch square casserole dish.
- Fill a saucepan with water just below a steamer insert and bring to a boil. Add broccoli, cover, and steam until tender, about 2–4 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine steamed broccoli, bread cubes, drained diced tomatoes, shredded deli-style protein, and pepper jack cheese.
- In a separate bowl, beat eggs, heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir this mixture into the broccoli mixture.
- Pour everything into the prepared casserole dish and spread evenly.
- Bake for about 35 minutes, or until eggs are set in the center.
- Let cool for 3–5 minutes before slicing and serving.
