Ingredients
For the Danish:
1 sheet puff pastry
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup cherry pie filling
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Prepare the Puff Pastry: Cut the puff pastry into 4 squares. Make cuts at each corner to form a foldable shape.
-
Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
-
Assemble the Danishes: Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each puff pastry square. Add a spoonful of cherry pie filling on top of the cream cheese.
-
Fold and Seal: Dampen the edges of the pastry with water and fold the corners towards the center, creating a pocket around the filling.
-
Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
-
Dust with Powdered Sugar: Let cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Fruit Variations: Swap out the cherry pie filling for other fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, or peaches for different flavors.
Glaze Option: Drizzle a simple powdered sugar glaze over the top for extra sweetness.
Cheese Substitutes: Use ricotta or mascarpone instead of cream cheese for a different flavor profile.
