Ingredients

For the Crust:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp salt

1 cup warm water

2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast

2 tbsp olive oil

For the Filling:

1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

1 cup pizza sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup cheddar cheese (optional)

½ cup sliced mushrooms

½ cup sliced green bell peppers or jalapeños

Pepperoni slices

For the Toppings:

Additional shredded mozzarella cheese

Extra pepperoni and vegetables for garnish


Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:

    • In a small bowl, mix warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

    • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then mix until a dough forms.

    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.

  • Cook the Filling:

    • Brown the ground beef or sausage in a skillet over medium heat. Drain the fat, then stir in the pizza sauce and cook for 5 minutes. Set aside.

  • Assemble the Pizza Pie:

    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

    • Roll out the dough into a large circle and press it into a greased deep-dish pan.

    • Add a layer of mozzarella cheese, then the meat filling, followed by mushrooms, bell peppers, and more cheese.

    • Top with pepperoni slices and additional cheese.

  • Bake:

    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  • Serve:

    • Let the pizza pie cool slightly before slicing and serving.
