Description

Homemade Krispy Kremes are light, fluffy doughnut holes coated in a sweet, silky glaze, replicating the iconic Krispy Kreme flavor and texture right from your kitchen.

Ingredients

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons boiling water

1 teaspoon dry active yeast

8 ounces all-purpose flour (about 1¾ cups)

1½ ounces sugar (about 3 tablespoons)

1 egg

1 ounce butter (softened)

A dash of salt

Oil for frying

1/3 cup butter (for glaze)

2 cups confectioners’ sugar

1½ teaspoons vanilla extract

4 tablespoons hot water (adjust as needed)

Instructions

  1. Combine milk and boiling water in a small bowl. Let cool to lukewarm, then stir in yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles crumbs. Add beaten egg and yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled.
  5. Punch down dough, divide into four parts, roll each into a rope, cut into inch-long pieces, and shape into balls.
  6. Place dough balls on a tray, cover, and let rest for 10–15 minutes.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry doughnuts in batches for 2 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Melt butter for glaze, stir in powdered sugar and vanilla, then slowly add hot water until smooth and pourable.
  9. Dip warm doughnuts in glaze and place on wire rack to set.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Reheat doughnuts in the microwave for 8–10 seconds.

Freeze unglazed doughnuts for up to 1 month. Thaw and glaze before serving.

Add sprinkles, nuts, or spices like cinnamon for flavor variations.

Use a thermometer to ensure oil stays at 375°F for best results.

Let doughnuts cool slightly before glazing to avoid melting off the glaze.
