Description

Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli is a savory and satisfying meal featuring deli roast beef, sautéed peppers, onions, mushrooms, and provolone cheese wrapped in golden bread dough, inspired by classic Philly cheesesteak flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Rhodes Frozen White Bread, thawed
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • ½ cup green bell pepper, diced
  • ½ cup onion, diced
  • ½ cup mushrooms, sliced
  • Deli roast beef slices (enough to cover dough surface)
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • ⅛ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon sesame seeds
  • ⅛ teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Thaw frozen bread dough according to package instructions until doubled in size.
  2. Sauté diced bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms in 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  4. On a floured surface, roll the risen dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  5. Mix mayonnaise with garlic powder and spread evenly over dough, leaving a ½ inch border.
  6. Layer deli roast beef slices evenly over mayo. Distribute sautéed vegetables on top, then layer provolone cheese slices over the vegetables.
  7. Roll dough jelly-roll style, starting from the long side, tucking in fillings as you go. Pinch seam and ends to seal.
  8. Transfer stromboli seam-side down to baking sheet. Melt remaining butter and brush over the top. Sprinkle garlic salt, sesame seeds, and parsley evenly over surface.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  10. Let rest 5 minutes before slicing with a serrated knife. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Substitute thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak for a more authentic Philly cheesesteak.
  • Swap provolone cheese for American cheese, Cheez Whiz, or a cheese blend.
  • Add jalapeños, banana peppers, or spinach for extra veggies.
  • Prepare stromboli ahead and refrigerate before baking; add extra baking time.
  • Sprinkle red pepper flakes on top for extra heat.
