Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup strawberry jam
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in warm milk. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour, salt, remaining sugar, melted butter, and egg to the yeast mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
- On a floured surface, roll the dough to ½ inch thickness. Cut out donuts using a round cutter.
- Place donuts on a tray, cover lightly, and let them rise again until puffed.
- Heat oil to 375°F (190°C) and fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, turning once.
- Drain on paper towels and allow to cool completely.
- Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Fold in the strawberry jam until well combined.
- Using a small knife or piping tip, make a hole in the side of each cooled donut.
- Pipe the strawberry cheesecake filling into each donut until filled.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to form a smooth glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over the filled donuts before serving.
Notes
- Swap strawberry jam for raspberry or blueberry for different flavors.
- Add crushed graham crackers to the filling for a “crust” twist.
- Use flavored cream cheese for an added punch of taste.
