Description

These homemade donuts are pillowy soft, fried to golden perfection, and stuffed with a luscious strawberry cheesecake filling, then drizzled with a sweet vanilla glaze. A decadent breakfast or dessert that’s worth every bite!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup strawberry jam
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in warm milk. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, remaining sugar, melted butter, and egg to the yeast mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  4. On a floured surface, roll the dough to ½ inch thickness. Cut out donuts using a round cutter.
  5. Place donuts on a tray, cover lightly, and let them rise again until puffed.
  6. Heat oil to 375°F (190°C) and fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, turning once.
  7. Drain on paper towels and allow to cool completely.
  8. Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  9. Fold in the strawberry jam until well combined.
  10. Using a small knife or piping tip, make a hole in the side of each cooled donut.
  11. Pipe the strawberry cheesecake filling into each donut until filled.
  12. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to form a smooth glaze.
  13. Drizzle glaze over the filled donuts before serving.

Notes

  • Swap strawberry jam for raspberry or blueberry for different flavors.
  • Add crushed graham crackers to the filling for a “crust” twist.
  • Use flavored cream cheese for an added punch of taste.
