Description

These Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Rolls are a healthier take on the classic treat, offering a light, fluffy texture and rich, indulgent flavor. With the use of cottage cheese, they’re high in protein, low in fat, and surprisingly easy to make. Enjoy this melt-in-your-mouth treat as a healthier alternative to traditional cinnamon rolls!

Ingredients

  • Bread flour
  • Instant yeast
  • Sugar (raw cane or granulated white sugar)
  • Pink Himalayan salt
  • Low-fat cottage cheese (small curd)
  • Water

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:

    • In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
    • Add cottage cheese and mix on low speed for 1 minute.
    • Gradually add water, a few tablespoons at a time, until the dough comes together. Knead for 8-10 minutes.
  • Let the Dough Rise:

    • Once kneading is done, the cottage cheese should be fully incorporated.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise for 60-90 minutes until doubled in size.
  • Roll & Fill:

    • Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle, about 18 x 10 inches.
    • Spread the dough with a cinnamon and brown sugar mixture. Roll it up tightly and slice into 12 rolls.
  • Bake:

    • Bake the rolls at 375°F (190°C) until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
  • Cool & Serve:

    • Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the fluffy, perfectly baked rolls!

Notes

  • Gluten-Free: Substitute gluten-free flour for the bread flour.
  • Vegan: Use dairy-free cottage cheese and a plant-based milk alternative.
  • Sugar-Free: Use sugar substitutes like monk fruit or stevia.
  • Add-ins: Add raisins, walnuts, or pecans to the filling for extra texture and flavor.
  • Frosting: A light glaze or vegan yogurt frosting pairs perfectly.
