Description

The Fastest Puff Pastry Appetizer is an irresistible, quick-to-make treat perfect for any gathering. With layers of flaky puff pastry, tangy mustard, gooey mozzarella cheese, savory chicken, and fresh dill, this appetizer is full of flavor and can be made in under 30 minutes. Ideal for parties, snacks, or last-minute events!

Ingredients

2 x 400g puff pastry sheets (store-bought)

34 teaspoons mustard (adjust to taste)

150g hard mozzarella cheese, grated or thinly sliced

150g ketchup (for dipping or spreading)

200g cooked chicken, chopped into small pieces

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

A bunch of fresh dill, finely chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

  • Prepare the First Pastry Layer:

    • Unroll one sheet of puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.

    • Spread 3–4 teaspoons of mustard evenly across the surface, leaving a small border around the edges.

  • Layer the Fillings:

    • Sprinkle half of the grated mozzarella cheese over the mustard, followed by half of the chopped chicken.

    • Add half of the chopped dill on top of the chicken.

  • Add the Second Layer of Puff Pastry:

    • Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the layered fillings and gently press down to seal the edges.

  • Brush with Egg Wash:

    • Brush the top of the pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden, glossy finish when baked.

  • Score the Pastry:

    • Use a sharp knife to lightly score the top layer of puff pastry into squares or rectangles. Be careful not to cut all the way through.

  • Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

  • Serve:

    • Allow the pastry to cool for 5 minutes, then slice into squares or rectangles. Serve with a side of ketchup for dipping.

Notes

Vegetarian Version: Skip the chicken and substitute with sautéed mushrooms or roasted vegetables for a vegetarian alternative.

Cheese Variations: Swap mozzarella for cheddar, gouda, or any cheese that melts well.

Add More Flavor: Try adding caramelized onions or sun-dried tomatoes for extra depth of flavor.

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Reheating: Reheat in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5-10 minutes to restore crispiness.
