Description
This classic Tuna Melt combines creamy tuna salad, melted mozzarella cheese, and crispy toasted bread, making it the ultimate comfort food. A quick, easy, and satisfying meal perfect for lunch or a savory snack.
Ingredients
- 2 (5oz) cans of tuna, drained
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 stalk of celery, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 3–4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
- 1/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Bread, sliced (your choice of bread)
- Butter, softened (for spreading)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Drain the water from the tuna cans and place the tuna in a medium bowl. Add the chopped onion, celery, garlic, parsley, mayonnaise, olive oil, and mozzarella cheese. Mix everything until well incorporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread, then place the bread butter-side down in the skillet.
- While the bread is toasting, scoop about 2 tablespoons of the tuna salad mixture onto the bread in the skillet. Butter another slice of bread on one side and place it butter-side up on top of the tuna salad.
- Once the bottom is golden brown, flip the sandwich and grill the other side until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from the skillet, let sit for a moment, then slice and serve hot.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, spread butter on the outside of both slices of bread before grilling.
- Try different cheeses like cheddar, provolone, or pepper jack for a new flavor twist.
- Consider adding pickles or tomatoes for extra crunch and flavor.
