Description

A lighter twist on the classic Reuben, this grilled turkey sandwich combines turkey breast, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing on rye bread, grilled to golden perfection.

Ingredients

8 slices rye bread

8 oz sliced cooked turkey breast

4 slices Swiss cheese

1 cup sauerkraut, drained

1/4 cup Thousand Island dressing

2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Spread Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of rye bread.
  2. On four slices, layer sliced turkey, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese.
  3. Top with the remaining bread slices, dressing side down, to form the sandwiches.
  4. Spread softened butter on the outside of each sandwich.
  5. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  6. Place the sandwiches on the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Flip and grill the other side for another 3–4 minutes until golden and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve hot.

Notes

Use well-drained sauerkraut to prevent sogginess.

Try with different cheeses like provolone or sharp cheddar for variation.

Add hot sauce to the dressing for a spicy twist.

  • Serve with pickles, coleslaw, or potato chips for a classic deli-style meal.
