Description
A lighter twist on the classic Reuben, this grilled turkey sandwich combines turkey breast, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing on rye bread, grilled to golden perfection.
Ingredients
8 slices rye bread
8 oz sliced cooked turkey breast
4 slices Swiss cheese
1 cup sauerkraut, drained
1/4 cup Thousand Island dressing
2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
- Spread Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of rye bread.
- On four slices, layer sliced turkey, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese.
- Top with the remaining bread slices, dressing side down, to form the sandwiches.
- Spread softened butter on the outside of each sandwich.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Place the sandwiches on the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, until golden brown.
- Flip and grill the other side for another 3–4 minutes until golden and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve hot.
Notes
Use well-drained sauerkraut to prevent sogginess.
Try with different cheeses like provolone or sharp cheddar for variation.
Add hot sauce to the dressing for a spicy twist.
- Serve with pickles, coleslaw, or potato chips for a classic deli-style meal.
